Armando Rio y Cuervo and his brothers began working for their uncle Don Ramon, a skilled watchmaker, in Havana, Cuba. Under the guidance of Armando and his brothers, they soon developed a reputation as some of the finest watchmakers in the world. The company grew quickly and in 1882, they opened a new watch and jewelry boutique which catered to Havana's elite. It was named Cuervo y Sombrinos meaning "Cuervo and Nephews". The watch production was later moved to Switzerland during the 1950's joining the elite ranks of fine Swiss watchmakers.
