Fabergé, famed for its extravagant jeweled Easter eggs, was started 1864 by Gustav Fabergé in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1872 Peter Carl Fabergé took control of the company. He and his goldsmiths designed and constructed the first egg in 1885. The company enjoyed great success until World War I. Peter sold the Fabergé Co. and it closed a few years later. Having been revived in 1989, Fabergé now designs eggs, enameled jewelry and works of art.
